How it started
In 2009, the Celebration of Student Writing was an inaugural event in which over 600 English 101 students showcased art installations inspired by their English coursework to the UNM community. The event was a huge success and has grown with each subsequent year, with hundreds of students presenting their work in the form of poster presentations, art installations, games, videos, performances, and much more.

Celebration 2017 |
Each year, the Celebration takes place in the SUB ballrooms and lasts over the course of one day. Students from English and other writing-intensive courses showcase their work revised into new genres, from videos and storyboards to brochures, websites, collages, flyers, and more. Students can present their work both individually and as a group or a whole class. The Celebration provides screens and video projectors, computers, and poster boards, and the students are encouraged to draw on their creativity to captivate their audience and promote their ideas. Traditionally, the Celebration has also partnered with the Lobo Reading Experience program to bring together the current Lobo Reading book’s author and prominent community members to discuss the issues relevant to our campus and the Lobo Reading book of the year.
2017 Celebration for the first time offered a $100 gift card award granted to the class that won the most audience votes. Emma Mincks' English 110 class won it for the their art installation "Cup of Water" and "What Writing Means to Us" video (featured below). The Celebration 2018 will again offer an Audience Choice Award! |

Who is invited to the Celebration
This is a public event in which we formally invite administrators across the campus (from the Provost to deans to program directors). We also encourage your students to invite their friends and family. It is our students' time to shine — to share their work with campus stakeholders and members of the UNM community. Our event offers a dynamic forum for conversations about student writing, literacy, and pedagogical practices.
